City of Bristol Silver Band!

3/2/2013

The City of Bristol Brass Band Learners competed this morning in Ross-on-Wye at the Gloucestershire Brass Band Association Entertainments contest.  The Band played really well from the number 2 spot against Abergavenny Borough Training Band, Lydney Training Band and Lydbrook Training Band.  MD Steve Ellis was full of praise for everyone.

Here is what the adjudicator, Dr. Graham Jones MBE wrote:
Gringo Mariachi - A good opening well played.  Maybe a little more dynamic variation would add to this latin number.  well played cornets.

Feelings - Nice warm sounds to open.  Careful with the ensemble playing around B. Well played throughout D.  At F cornets needs to be together and balance the chords.  A good effort on this difficult arrangement. Very well played Harry.

Joshua - Good understanding of the swing rhythm.  Be careful of the pitch / intonation at B.  Well played everyone.

Policeman's Song - Good choice for trombone feature.  Well played back row cornets with your answering phrase.  Good confident trombone soloists, well played.

London Pride - Excellent opening.  A little untidy in to B, however, good sounds here.  V. good change into K with a confident finish.

Thank you - a well balanced programme which has clearly been carefully worked on.  Well done everyone.
The Band achieved a Silver Certificate, such a good result in a short time.

Special mention should go to the solists: Harry for his super performance of Feelings, and Tommy and Ben for the comedic performance of The Policeman's Song.  Also, thank you to all the helpers from the senior band.
