Rearranged Christmas Concert
After the cancellation of the Christmas Concert due to adverse weather, the band's committee decided to arrange a concert to start the New Year.
It was a great chance to show off the Learner Band and Training Band giving the younger players the experience of performing on the concert stage. It was also a good opportunity for the main band to practice the contest program for Coleford Entertainments, in two weeks time.
Great performances from both the Learner and Training Bands set a high standard from the start, with confident performances of the pieces they have been practicing so hard.
Didn’t they do well!!!
Following this, the City of Bristol Band performed part of their programme for the GBBA Entertainment contest on 6th February. Pieces included Children of Sanchez, Dublin’s Fair City and Stars in a Velvety Sky. The concert also featured the first ever performance of Stephen Rockey’s arrangement “Himan Lane”. The piece was arranged by Stephen in memory of a close friend of the band, Ian Hamlen, who sadly passed away in 2009.
The bands ended the concert with a massed item! All three bands played Jock McKenzie’s “Boulders Brass”.
The concert was well received and now the band looks forward to the contest in two weeks time in Coleford.
A special mention must go to soloists, Pete Boyles, Steve Ellis and Philip Anderson. An extra special mention must go to the members of the Learner and Training Bands who performed superbly!!!!
