Bryn James has played cornet and euphonium with many of Gloucestershire's Forest of Dean brass bands from a very young age. He later trained at the Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall, whilst with The Band of the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Since leaving the Army in the 1990's, he has conducted several local brass bands, with many contest successes.
In 1998 he joined the City of Bristol Brass Band, again adding to his reputation for producing outstanding results by taking them from 2nd Section to Championship in just 5 years. Since then he has conducted the Tongwynlais Band in South Wales, Lydney, Filton Concert Brass and Bream Silver before returning to the City of Bristol Brass Band in 2014 with his own inimitable, winning style. In his last 13 contests he has produced 12 podium finishes.
