Once
more the band travels to another town in search of that elusive 1st prize
at this contest. Always the bridesmaid but never the bride, is what some
people may say when they look at the results. What are we missing? is
it passion? is it direction? is it the players? I can safely say that
it is none of the above. We have all these qualities and more (I am a
little biased on this). However at the weekend (5th April) the band entered
the concert hall at the Riviera Centre in Torquay with the intention that
we will not be leaving that contest with nothing less than the 1st prize
and an invitation to represent the South West at the National finals in
Dundee. Everyone connected to the City of Bristol Brass Band in that room
on Saturday, whether supporter or band representatives, gave 100%. This
was rewarded with the desired result. The band could not have been happier
than they were on Saturday when Derek Broadbent thought that our performance
was the best of the day. This is only the second year at this level and although the official notification has not been sent, this result could see us enter a new high for the band in it's relatively brief history as the City of Bristol Brass Band and enter the Championship section in 2004. There is no doubt that the players and committee are dedicated to succeed at this level and become as well known as Cambourne or the famous Sun Life Band. Before we get there we need to get to Dundee and represent Bristol at the National Finals. The band are already preparing numerous fund raising events which will include concerts, race nights, dedications to name a few. If you would like to help the band raise the money please email the band at dundee2003@cobbb.co.uk and tell us how you can help. (this can be anything from assisting at concerts or donating money) You can keep up with all the latest news from the band by joining the City of Bristol Brass Band's newsletter email list, click here to join. We hope to see you at one or more of our events and make Bristol Proud at the Finals in September 2003. It was not all contesting at the weekend. The band enjoyed the comforts of the Kistor Hotel and it's bar. The staff were freindly and very accommodating (no pun intended). Colin the night porter and the Wilton & District Youth Band had to endure 2 nights of late night discussions (hmmmm) and Karaoke. The band also held it's 1st golf open championship at Torquay's Pitch & Putt (more details to follow). Please click on a link below to access that part of the weekend.
